Purchasing and Materials Manager  (6/3/16)

Responsibilities include procurement and expediting of commodities, parts and services, inventory analysis, cultivating and maintaining supplier relationships and accountability while meeting the quality, cost and delivery requirements for the company and its customers.  This position reports to the General Manager but works closely with several internal departments.    

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, source, evaluate, and select vendors/suppliers/subcontractors based on product specifications, pricing, quality of parts or services offered, reliability, consistency and delivery.
  • Effectively negotiate pricing of high quality materials, parts, components and services using opportunities that are advantageous and align with company strategic goals. 
  • Expedite delivery of raw materials, parts and services from outside resources while meeting delivery requirements of the company and its customers. 
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with vendors/suppliers/subcontractors.
  • Regularly evaluate performance and enforce accountability of vendors.  Develop list of alternate or backup suppliers and resources.
  • Independently drive solutions to complex supply chain issues.
  • Investigate and resolve any non-conformances, price or delivery discrepancies, stock outages, returns or other issues in a timely manner.
  • Make recommendations to management based on analysis of sales and market trends, economy, inventory levels, quality of goods, etc. with a goal towards maximizing profits.

Qualifications

Associate's degree or equivalent two-year college or technical school; or one year related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, documents, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before customers, suppliers and employees of organization.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel & Outlook, Accounting or ERP software; Inventory software; Internet Research Capabilities; Order processing systems; Manufacturing software and Contact Management systems are a plus.
